Multi-soil layer probe-type soil quality monitoring system

EcoSentec Soil quality monitoring solution

Multi-soil layer probe-type soil quality monitoring system

This system is primarily composed of multiple multi-layer soil monitoring stations distributed across various regions. Each station includes key components such as RS485/4G-enabled multi-layer soil probes, solar power systems, and mounting poles. These stations continuously and accurately monitor various parameters across different soil layers, including moisture, water content, electrical conductivity, and trace elements. Leveraging RS485 wired or 4G wireless communication, the system forms an integrated soil environmental quality monitoring and early warning platform. It supports a range of IoT-based services such as remote online monitoring, data logging, curve trend analysis, remote alarms, and interlock control.

RS485 type and 4G type multi-layer probe soil detectors

The multi-layer probe-type soil detector features a structure with multiple measurement points, typically spaced every 10 cm by default, enabling detailed observation of soil parameters at various depths. It provides real-time online monitoring of temperature, moisture, conductivity, pH, and trace elements across different soil layers, and supports customized configurations for varying heights.

Device Installation

Installation Location Selection Guidelines

  1. Under Full Irrigation Conditions:

    • Choose areas with relatively less water intake as priority monitoring locations.

  2. Under Local Irrigation Conditions:

    • Select the moistest areas for monitoring.

  3. Crop Growth Representation:

    • Choose locations where crop growth is uniform and representative of the majority of the field.

  4. Root Distribution Consideration:

    • Understand the root distribution of the target crop.

    • Position the equipment near the water-absorbing root zone to determine the appropriate installation height.

Installation Method

To install the sensor, dig a vertical pit with a diameter greater than 20 centimeters. Insert the sensor’s steel probes horizontally into the side wall of the pit at the predetermined depth, then tightly backfill the pit to ensure good contact with the soil. After allowing the system to stabilize for a period of time, continuous measurement and data recording can be carried out over days, months, or even longer durations.
